Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Memorial Day Weekend 2009!!! Great times as some of the Magos Family went to Shaver Lake for a weekend stay at a cabin. My wife and I went up on Friday evening after work and we stayed until Saturday evening. My family rented a boat for all of us to ride on the lake on Saturday. We took a couple of ice chests with us and some food. Lucky for us, the boat was equipped with a barbecue grill and we were able to grill up some burgers and hot dogs.

The weather was great; cool and not a cloud in the sky.

My first ever fish...not sure how I did it, but I'm glad I did. Total for the day: 4 fish. Apparently the tasted even better than they looked. I'll catch 'em, but won't even 'em.

In all, we had a great time and we really enjoyed ourselves. I plan on renting a jet ski next time we go up to the lake.

Long Time, No Blog (Part II)

WOW!!! Has it been that long since my last post?!? Well, for those who may be following this blog (and I don't think there are many out there), I'm glad to be back and my summer resolution is to post more often.

So you may ask...what have I been doing with myself for the past few months? What...nobody really cares? Ok, I'm going to tell you anyways. I think I mentioned that I was enrolled in the MBA Program and Fresno State. All in all, I can say that it was very interesting and I'm excitied about the program. I can honestly say that I didn't do myself justice this past semester. I did not put in the effor that I normally have done in the past and it showed by me having to claw my way back up the grading ladder. Regardless, I thought I put in a nice effort and I hope to be rewarded with at least a "B" in each class. I am glad the summer is upon us so that I can start doing stuff around the house that need to get done.

I'm glad summer is here (although not officially) and I am excited to get the house in order. My dad and I installed sprinklers recently in my backyard and we are getting ready to lay down some sod pretty soon here. I hope to get some concrete work done and finish the rest of the backyard with some decorative pavers.

Well that's all for now, I'm glad to be back and I'll keep you posted as the summer progresses!

Long Time, No Blog

Alright all, my apologies for not being here in a while. I just started the MBA program at Fresno State and I have been busy getting adjusted to school again. It seems a lot has happened since the last time I posted something.

I can tell you that the state of the economy just became a lot more of a reality to me than it had been. The company I work for just had its first (hopefully last) round of lay-offs. Although I feel secure with my position in the company, it is scary to know that the company you work for has to resort to desperate measures. Some of the people who were laid off had been with the company for over 20 years. I am sad to see them go, but I also realize the state we are in. I wish them nothing but the best and hope that they are able to find employment soon.

On a related subject, it looks as if the stimulus package is about to be signed into law by President Obama. Although I am not a supporter of a lot of the spending and increased debt it will create, I do welcome the nearly $100 billion of infrastructure spending. As a civil engineer I am hoping that some (a lot) of that money will find its way to my area.

Well that's all for now. I promise to not have such a long break between blog posts.

Sad Day

Today was a sad day for the family. My grandfather (mom's dad) died on New Year's Day and he was put to rest today. He had been sick for a long time today and it was sad to see him in the state he was in. In one respect I am happy to know that he is in a better place, but in another I know that I will not see him again. For the most part the family is doing well and I pray that we can all stay strong in this time of. I ask you all out there to keep my grandfather in your prayers and to keep the family in your prayers as well.

Ringing in 2009

When my wife and I bought our house we wanted to be able to host family and friends. This New Year celebration was one of our first opportunities to do so. The night consisted of a pot luck dinner full of tamales, taquitos, rice, salad etc. In order to make the night fun for everyone, we decided to make it a "Game Night" theme. People were playing bingo, Texas Hold 'Em, Sorry and Trouble all in order to win tickets to have a chance to win various prizes we made available. Below are a few pictures from the evening.

New Year's Resolution

So, one of my New Year's Resolutions this year was to create my own little spot in the vast world wide web. I wanted a space to share my thoughts and share my world with you. 2008 was an up and down year. I got married, passed the PE licensure examination and was able to purchase a house along with my wife. On the other hand, I did have some losses this year. My grandmother passed away and a few weeks later my great uncle passed away. With their passing, the Magos Family closed the book on their generation.
I hope you will enjoy my blog and enjoy the stories I bring to you. My goal is to update it as much as possible and keep you all updated on all the latest and greatest news from my wife and I.
